Year 1 Learning Narrative – Autumn Term 2024

The children arrive back to find strange footprints dotted throughout the school. They lead them to an abandoned egg.
Who did the egg belong to?
What was inside?
How did it get there?
Following this unknown discovery, the children will uncover the owner of the egg and enter the land of the dinosaurs. They will learn who once ruled the planet and then study important people from our past.

Details regarding other subject lessons can be viewed in our wider curriculum progression documents. Our Music action plans for 2024-2025 can be viewed here.

At White Meadows Primary we use the Read Write Inc. phonics programme across both Key Stages up to Year 3. This phonics scheme provides a systematic approach to literacy, both reading and writing, which is fun and engaging. This is supplemented with the use of phonetically decodable books from Oxford Reading Tree and the Phonic Bug schemes, along with a range of other texts. Further details on how you can support your child can be found on the Read Write Inc. website.
In addition to the above programme, we also use the Big Write and Big Maths schemes and Little Big Maths in Foundation Stage.
Parents are welcome to approach class teachers to find out more about the curriculum at White Meadows. The following link gives more details of the National Curriculum.

Year 2 Learning Narrative – Autumn Term 2024

As we returned to school in September the children will be introduced to the ‘Wheely’ amazing world of ‘Wheels, wings and wonderful things.’ They will meet the quirky and funny character of Mrs Armitage and her equally quirky and funny inventions. We will explore the use of imaginative language, use ‘Talk for Writing’ strategies to write our own adventure and play with rhyming words to write a rhyming couplet poem. During our Maths lessons we will develop our understanding of place value and then apply this to addition and subtraction units of work. In History and Geography, we will explore and research the lives and adventures of Amelia Earhart and Captain Scott.  The children will be given the task in DT to investigate, plan and create a protype for a new sleigh that explorers could use if going on an expedition just like Captain Scott! We will develop our understanding of Computing and focus our learning on digital photography and Computer Systems and Network – IT around us. ‘Jessie and Friends’ will help us with our understanding of online safety.  In our Art lessons we will explore the artists Anni Albers and Jackson Pollock.
